AshburtonAshburton is described as the gateway to Canterbury and is located on the east coast of the South Island, New Zealand, around forty-five minutes south of Christchurch. Ashburton is the third largest centre in the Canterbury region and within Ashburton, Tinwald is the largest suburb (see Google Map).
Temperatures in Ashburton are similar to those of Christchurch; however, Ashburton often experiences dryer conditions due to its higher altitude. Temperatures often reach highs of 35C in summer, while in winter it is common for frosts and snowfall. Each quality motel unit at Tinwald Motel offers both air conditioning and heating to cater for the climate here in Ashburton.
In 1987 the residents of Ashburton came together to create the multi-million dollar recreation facility of Lake Hood. The 173 hectare Aquatic Park features 7km of Lake Front and amazing facilities for rowing, sailing, water-skiing and other water sports.
For tourists, Ashburton has a wide range of attractions and activities, ranging from skiing, to snowboarding, to hot air balloon rides and farm tours. Ashburton also has a great choice of eateries, restaurants, bars and pubs.
